The Dressmaker (2015)

А bittersweet comedy about love, revenge and haute couture. Set in the 1950’s, The Dressmaker is about a glamorous young woman who, after many years in Europe, returns to her small home town in rural Australia to right some wrongs from her past. When Tilly (played by Kate Winslet) comes home, she not only reconciles with her ailing mother, Molly (played by Judy Davis) but, with her sewing machine. With her haute couture style, she transforms the women of the town and, simultaneously, gets sweet revenge on those who did her wrong. Also, unexpectedly, she falls in love – which leads to her greatest loss and her most destructive deed. Written by Jocelyn Moorhouse and P.J. Hogan, directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse and based on the best-selling novel by Rosalie Ham, The Dressmaker brings together a highly acclaimed cast ( Kate Winslet, Judy Davies, Liam Hemsworth and Hugo Weaving) along with and an outstanding team. On the day of the premiere of its record Australian box office season, The Dressmaker received twelve nominations for this year’s AACTA Awards. It won 5 including Best Lead Actress and the People’s Choice Award. It is now in international release.
